Why No Show This Week?

I have a friend who has a lot of “interesting” sayings. One he uses when he’s not feeling well is “I feel like death riding an onion!” Honestly, I’m not sure what that means…but I get his point. If you’ve listened to the last few episodes of the show, we’ve mentioned for a couple of weeks that we were dealing with “the crud”.  That’s pretty unusual for us because we’re typically pretty healthy. Especially Vanessa.

Well, at the end of “Crud: Week 2”, we finally went to the doc to get checked out. I was diagnosed with pneumonia and Vanessa with bronchitis, which, of course, nobody has time for. Crazy. Read more…

Yes, we felt like “death riding an onion”. We were prescribed some meds and told to check back next week if we weren’t feeling better. Not to TMI you here, but mornings weren’t bad after the typical “clearing out” phase, but as the day rolled on and the evening came we again found ourselves “riding the onion”. Next morning, same cycle. I guess you could say we unknowingly started a new routine, and didn’t check back in with the doc!

So, long story even longer, we put off checking back in with the doc until yesterday morning. We just weren’t getting any better. And both of us had this really, really annoying persistent cough. It just wouldn’t go away. For the last 3 shows it took me 3 times longer to edit the audio recordings than it did to record the episode. The audio was just riddled with coughing breaks. Ugh! Well, during our visit to the doc yesterday we were both diagnosed with Pertussis…what they call “whooping cough” in kids. The good news is we’re through the infection stage for the most part. The bad news is we could be coughing like this for 3 months!!!  Personally (being an optimist) I don’t think it will last that long. Even if it does “the show must go on!” as they say. It’ll just take me longer to edit. But for this week…no show…we’ve been dealing with this for 4 weeks now and we just need a break for this week… we’re exhausted.

In the mean time, go back and check out some older episodes, watch my new Skitch Tutorial or the Google Docs Tutorial (both free). Take some time to work on your Life Plan or read through the Website Guide (also free).

We may be working on some other things this week that don’t require talking. We just need to make an effort to avoid both death and that darn onion.

Thanks for your understanding and we’ll be back with a show next week, 19 September 2013!

  1. Ohh my goodness! I hope you both feel better soon! Thank you for the show. I really enjoy it and you two really inspire me to edit and simplify my life. It feels great to take control! Thank you!

    • Thank you so much, Sarah! We’re on the road to recovery…but it seems like we’ve been in a traffic jam for a bit! 😉

  2. Oh your poor things, that sounds awful, I hope you feel better very soon…and thanks for your great podcasts I’ve been telling my Australian friends all about your show 🙂

  3. Oh my! I’m so sorry you guys have suffered so long with this crud! But glad you are on your way out of it. Yes, I was sad to see there wasn’t a new show (I love you guys!), but I went back and listened to last week’s show again today; so much good info and links! Load up on green juice if you have the energy to do it!

    • Thanks so much, Nicole! We’ll be back this week. My coughing has diminished quite bit, but Vanessa is a few days behind me!

    • We’re back, John! We finally released a show yesterday. We’re not feeling 100%, but high 80s to low 90s and betting better every day!

  4. I found your podcast a couple weeks ago. I sit in a “cube” all day and mostly listen to podcasts….I gotta tell you guys I LOVE your podcast. I started with the first one and I think im around #8 or so. I laughed so hard when you said something to the effect of “someone could conceivably be listening to this episode a year from now” lololol I was like yep he’s a talkin to me 🙂 Vanessa when you first said “anyhows” I thought it was a slip…I now know its just you and I adore it. It makes me smile every time I hear you say it. And Daniel i”m truly sorry but you will forever be “cubby hubby” to me! I hope you both feel better soon and thanks for such a relative podcast for the times in which we live. I adore you both and just so you know I came too late for 2013 but I have a “edit and forget it 2014” sign on my fridge. I love that idea 🙂 I’m just gonna be a year late.

    • Thank you Colleen! Your kind words mean so much to us….it totally makes our day! It’s so funny about the “anyhoos” thing…I totally picked that up from another lieutenant when I first got on active duty in the Air Force back in 1997 and I don’t know why but it stuck…just one of my many idiosyncrasies ;o) And yes, poor poor Dan…cubby hubby is just too cute and adorable…regardless of what he thinks.

We are thrilled you like the show and find it relevant. I often call this journey my mid-life awakening (totally stealing a term from Brene Brown in her books Daring Greatly and The Gifts of Imperfection)…but that’s what this feels like. I’ve never been so aware, so awake and so motivated to live a life on my terms. I always thought being organizing was one of the most empowering things, but living a life of simplicity is way more powerful in my opinion. It’s not just getting rid of stuff…it’s learning more about yourself, your values and building strong relationships with those that matter most.

So glad you found us and excited about your upcoming 2014 Edit and Forget It Challenge…you won’t regret it! Thanks for taking the time to comment here on the show!

      -Vanessa
